Embu County is also a gateway to Mt. Kenya and has the little known Mwea National Reserve and several tourist attraction sites that remain unexploited. The Mwea National Reserve is a popular site for wild game viewing and boat rides at Kamburu dam. It also has over 200 species of birds and is renowned for its water birds and waders. Wildlife lovers also have the chance to see Bush bucks, Impalas, Aardvarks, Yellow baboons, Dik dik etc. Embu County is famous for game viewing, boat rides at Kamburu dam, hippo point, bird watching and beautiful walking circuits. kirinyaga county
Kirinyaga County is home to Mt. Kenya and offers a breathtaking view of the mountain with its snowcapped peaks, v-shaped valleys and indigenous forests. The county is also home to the Mt. Kenya Forest that is inhabited by a variety of wildlife including elephants, buffaloes, monkeys and birds. Kirinyaga has over 17 waterfalls which are found along the course of the six major rivers; Sagana, Nyamindi, Rupingazi, Thiba, Rwamuthambi and Ragati, as they cascade from the mountain downwards.
One can also climb Mt. Kenya from Kirinyaga County through the Kamweti route which leads you to old elephant pathways through dense rain and bamboo forests to the highland swamps and moorlands of Mt. Kenya.
While in Kirinyaga, lovers of the outdoors can engage in extreme sports like bungee jumping, canoe kayaking, white water rafting, rapids river trekking as well as enjoying Sagana chopper trips. laikipia county
Laikipia County is one of the 47 counties of Kenya located on the equator in the former Rift Valley Province. The county has two major urban centers: Nanyuki to the southeast and Nyahururu to the southwest. The main economic activities in the county are tourism and agriculture, chiefly grain crops, ranching and greenhouse horticulture. The county has a cool temperate climate with both rainy and dry seasons. Laikipia, which means treeless plain in Maasai language is a vast plain where different kinds of wildlife, including the big five roam freely on the rangelands.
With its breathtaking landscape and spectacular backdrop of the snowcapped Mount Kenya, Nanyuki is an ideal holiday destination with modern hotels and resorts to fit any visitor’s budget. The town hosts the main Kenya Air Force airbase and the British Army Training camp. It’s always booming with business activity as residents strive to satisfy the needs of tourists and army officers who reside in the town. Nyahururu town came about due to the Thompson Falls in the nearby Ewaso Nyiro River. The town is also an important player in the milk processing sector because of the dairy farming activities in the area. It is also known for its large production and trading of fresh farm produce like peas, potatoes and carrots, which are then transported to major towns.
Laikipia is a county with different landscapes and climatic zones. It is popular for its abundant wildlife, where you find endangered species like the Bongo and the African wild dog. Laikipia has several private ranches that frequently organize fun activities and memorable trips.

The Meru National Park located east of the county is one of the famous parks in the region, founded in 1966. A poacher-proof rhino sanctuary near the main gate is home to both the white and black rhinos and visitors can even take selfies at close range. Other major attractions include the former home of George and Joy Adamson, spectacular views of Mt. Kenya, rivers and riverine habitats, the big five, the grave of Elsa the lioness on the north bank of the Ura River, a major tributary that forms the park’s southwest boundary among others. Participants of the Epik Challenge may also enjoy game drives, bird watching, bush walks, sundowners and bush meals as they enjoy the outdoors.
The county is also home to Meru Museum that was established to conserve the culture and traditional practices of the Ameru people. It houses displays of the cultural and diverse history of the Ameru people as well as the garden of indigenous medicinal shrubs and herbs. There’s also an outdoor theatre for dances and other activities that showcase the Ameru culture. The Njuri Ncheke house is located about 13KM from Meru town. It is still used by the Meru Council of Elders for meetings and solving disputes arising within Meru communities but it is not open to the public. Meru County also provides an array of accommodation facilities including Safari Camps, hotels and lodges.

THARAKA NITHI
Tharaka Nithi County is found in the eastern part of Kenya and Kathwana serves as its capital town. Other major towns in the county include Chuka and Chogoria. Tharaka Nithi is bordered by Meru County to the whole northern stretch border, Kitui County to its south-east and Embu County to its south-west. It has a fairly central location within Kenya, an advantage that has made it a transit-point for goods and services. The majority of people in the county are farmers who rely on rain-fed agriculture and livestock farming although the discovery of iron ore and coal deposits has also created new economic potential for developing extraction industries.
It boasts of several view-points that offer spectacular scenery of Mt. Kenya and its environs. The county also offers a route to the top of Mt. Kenya on the windward side through thick bamboo forest.
